| Electric Arc Furnace |
Page 1 of 2 The charge bucket is filled with scrap steel and scrap substitutes and then transported to the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). Direct Reduced Iron pellets, which make up 10-40% of the metallic charge, are conveyed through the roof of the EAF shell to diluting the residuals to acceptable levels for the required end use product. At the bottom of each charge bucket is a clamshell door. The crane operator hoist each charge bucket over the electric arc furnace and drop their load of scrap steel. Once the charge is unloaded the furnace is covered, and electrodes are lowered through the top of the furnace. The electrodes are lowered near the scrap, inched back up and electricity “arcs” to the steel. |
