Thank you on behalf of Children’s Hospital of Alabama for your tremendous support of the 2009 Nucor  Alabama Children’s Charity Classic held October 11th and 12th.  While we regret that the Monday golf portion of the event was rained out, I know many of you still enjoyed the Sunday evening Welcome Dinner.

The Nucor Tournament Steering Committee is pleased to announced that this year’s event raised more than $179,000 in support of Children’s Hospital of Alabama and its mission of providing world-class medical care to Alabama’s ill and injured children. This is an outstanding success and Children’s Hospital is grateful for your continued support. This brings our three-year total raised to more than $683,000!

Please take a moment to recognize our signature sponsors listed below. I would also like to thank Kinder Morgan and Kelco Metals for their generous support during Sunday’s live auction. These outstanding companies purchased a Nucor advertisement signed by the board of directors and Nucor’s top Executives for winning bids of $12,000 each!

I also want to recognize the hundreds of Nucor employees who participated in this year’s tournament by purchasing a ‘Simon, The Loving Lion’ stuffed animal in support of our Pastoral Care Department. Thanks to these employees and to many of you, 935 ‘lions’ have been donated to Children’s Hospital valued at over $18,000. Special recognition goes to the employees of Nucor Tuscaloosa for winning the inaugural ‘Simon Challenge!’
