Dan DiMicco, CEO of Charlotte-based Nucor Corp., didn't drink beers with President Obama, like a Harvard professor and a police sergeant famously did this week. But he did get some iced tea, waffle fries and a cheeseburger.

DiMicco, the chief executive of one of the world's largest steelmakers, joined Obama and three other business leaders for a White House lunch on Friday.

The 90-minute lunch was part of Obama's ongoing effort to stay connected with the leaders of corporate America as the country weathers the recession. DiMicco said he and the chief executives of Verizon Communications, Wal-Mart and Starbucks chatted with the president about a range of issues, including jobs, health-care and the enforcement of trade agreements
