Nucor Corporation announced that the Nucor Foundation has awarded over $52 million in scholarships to 10,500 students at more than 1,300 colleges since its inception in 1974, of which $31 million has been awarded in the last ten years.  The Nucor Foundation had a record year for its support of education in 2009, awarding $4.4 million in scholarships to nearly 2,000 students.

"We are very proud of the financial support we have provided to students over the last 36 years," said Dan DiMicco, Nucor Chairman, President and CEO.  "We look forward to continuing to support our nation's students, particularly during these difficult economic times.  A well-educated workforce is a vital component of our economic recovery."

Supporting education is a central focus of the Nucor Foundation.  Nucor believes that further economic and social progress in our country is built upon the education of our citizens.  The awarding of scholarships is a way to encourage personal, as well as national and community, development.

The Nucor Foundation has several different scholarship programs that benefit all children of Nucor employees and students pursing degrees in engineering and metallurgy from communities where the company operates.
