It is the policy of Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. (NSTI) to prevent and minimize, to the fullest extent practical, all risks to the health, safety, and well being of all employees, contractors, and visitors. NSTI’s employees, property and the environment will be safeguarded by implementing and maintaining a comprehensive and effective safety and health program. NSTI’s programs and activities will meet or exceed the requirements of health, safety, and environmental regulations issued by Federal, State of Alabama, and local agencies. Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. has chosen to utilize DUPONT’s STOP™ System (Safety Training Observation Program) to promote and encourage all levels of the organization to observe, identify, and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors.

Environmental Policy

Environmental Awareness through Goodwill, Leadership and Excellence

Environmental - Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. will comply and conform to the laws, regulations and other environmental requirements governing its operations. Environmental protection is a primary responsibility of Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. and each of its individual employees.  Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. also requires principal contractors, vendors and suppliers to comply with applicable environmental laws.   Assessments on waste generation and resource use will be conducted throughout the facility to identify opportunities where resources might be conserved or material may be prevented from becoming a waste or minimized.

Awareness – Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. will establish objectives and targets related to its significant aspects and impacts and establish a corrective and preventative action system for continual improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).  Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. will pursue pollution prevention and waste minimization opportunities and investigate and develop technologies and operations that improve environmental performance.

Goodwill – Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. will strive to foster open dialogue so that we may effectively communicate with our employees, our neighbors and other concerned parties.  Nucor recognizes its potential for environmental impacts upon the communities and habitats in which we operate.  We continually strive to minimize these impacts by evaluating our operations.

LeadershipAs leaders in our community, environmental compliance is a priority for Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc.  As such, Nucor is committed to providing the personnel and resources to implement the EMS.  Nucor is also committed to becoming a leader in the community by pursuing environmental improvements in the Tuscaloosa area.

Excellence - To continually improve the effectiveness of our Environmental Management System, Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. will regularly evaluate the Environmental Management System and make appropriate improvements.
